Well-done, but not nearly as interesting as the first edition. Relying on Scarlett Johansson’s character as the sole vessel of personality may not hold much longer.
movie review
Pompeii (2014) 60%
Jon Snow stars as Maximus Dawson in this cheese-filled rendition of Gladiatanic. Fun.
Population: 2 (2011) 30%
Realistically conveys the sense of post-apocalyptic boredom. I get that this is a micro-budget effort, but surely they could have spelled “warheads” correctly on the bomber jet console? (“wareheads”, hee) Or turned up the settings on their graphics card, so that clouds wouldn’t magically appear and disappear? The movie threatens to deal with some interesting subjects, and hints at some acting talent by the female lead, but neither is ever realized.
Four Lions (2010) 50%
Certainly a subject ripe for satire, but not much charisma present.
Batman: Assault on Arkham (2014) 60%
Not so much a Batman feature, but fairly clever.
Need For Speed (2014) 50%
Makes very little sense, especially when anyone is talking.
Divergent (2014) 60%
Implausible, illogical, yet interesting for awhile. About what you would expect from a movie that demonizes intelligence. I’ll probably watch the next installment, and it will probably annoy me more.
Generation Iron (2013) 70%
Well-made, definitive “day in the life” of modern bodybuilders. Not sure why I kept falling asleep watching it. Also a nit: it didn’t touch on the vanity that must at some point drive these folks.
Begin Again (2014) 50%
Adult contemporary milquetoast.
Godzilla (2014) 70%
Made with respect paid to the early, original Godzilla movies with all their symbolism and ambiguity.
