Superbad (2007) 70%
Funny and sincere.
Spirited Away (2001) 80%
Extraordinarily creative.
Step Up: All In (2014) 40%
The choreography is better than the last iteration, but the dialogue and lame attempt at a plot still need to go.
Shrek’s Thrilling Tales (2013) 60%
Somewhat clever.
The Remaining (2014) 20%
Between this and the equally awful rapture chimera “Left Behind”, movie night at Vacation Bible School has never featured so much carnage.
Stretch (2014) 60%
Acceptably silly.
We Bought a Zoo (2011) 60%
Good-natured, like Zoloft in movie form. Clever dialogue and acting prowess overcome contrivances that would otherwise grate.
The Three Musketeers (2011) 40%
Including a teaser for a sequel at the end seemed a bit ambitious, given the quality of the fare. On the bright side, we should now be able to play six degrees of separation with impressions of Keith Richards in movies, with Orlando Bloom’s effort in this one.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) 60%
Doesn’t strike the same balance of action. cleverness, effects, and humor that the first version did. It’s as if the producers listened to the wrong feedback as to what made the previous installment a hit. I’ll still be looking forward to the next one, though.
