Quality writing.
Month: December 2014
Gladiator (2000) 70%
Had a good chance of being terrible, if not for Crowe’s performance.
Lucy (2014) 60%
Absurd throughout, but Johansson makes a meal out of it, and it’s never boring.
God, the Universe and Everything Else (2006) 60%
Interesting yet shallow survey of some renowned minds.
Cuban Fury (2014) 60%
Sweet and benign.
Beneath (2013) 20%
Like Hitchcock’s “Lifeboat”, except with the unsatisfied wish that every character die immediately. Also fish puppets.
Ender’s Game (2013) 70%
There are some editing holes that I’m sure the book fills with pages of exposition, but otherwise the psychological and sociological investigations included are a respite from similar fare that usually omits their consideration.
Left Behind (2014) 20%
So, in the end times, will movies like this stop being made? Just weighing my options. Ripe for riffing and drinking-game worthy (+20%), I defer to Christy Lemire’s better review.
Howl’s Moving Castle (2005) 80%
Really creative.
GoodFellas (1990) 80%
Tour de force. Holds up well over time.
