Kidnapping Mr. Heineken (2015) 30%
Another one about idiot criminals unworthy of sympathy.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012) 40%
Something for the whole family: Miniature elephants for the kids, Dwayne Johnson for mom, Michael Caine for grandma, Luis Guzman for your crazy uncle, and a pseudo-teenage sexpot for some guilt-ridden leering from dad. Pleasant and sloppy all-around.
In Time (2011) 40%
“No, Justin. That first take was fine. You’re a star! Go on back to your trailer and relax.”
Looper (2012) 70%
I normally have issues with any movie involving time travel, especially if it employs the “don’t think about it too hard” conceit, as this one does. I’m not readily willing to suspend logic for one plot convenience and not others. However, this film was well-done, and provides twists and turns enough to satisfy.
Killing Them Softly (2012) 60%
Like an episode of a mafia case study – no detail overlooked, for better or worse. I got the impression the film was trying to make a point that I didn’t fully pick up on.
A Most Violent Year (2015) 70%
Starring Oscar Isaac as a young Al Pacino, this film about a business deal cum moral conundrum is pretty good.
Monster High: Haunted (2014) 30%
Collection of loud noises and bright colors.
Into the Woods (2014) 40%
Da da da DA da-da.
The Monuments Men (2014) 60%
Refreshing to see a film that pays so much attention to the better nature in people.
